According to the website, wiseGEEK, "Ecology is a branch of biology which is focused on the examination of living organisms in the natural environment. Ecologists look at how organisms interact with the environment and each other, and they study the complex and interconnected systems which influence life on Earth. Ecology is also sometimes known as environmental biology..." (source)
But how do we know that this is a correct definition? Is wiseGEEK a reliable source? Do we really understand what is being said here? Perhaps we should look at another source and compare the answers?
Over on the Library's edublog you'll find a section for our databases (there is a password to get into the blog, and then another for the databases - ask your teacher or email a library staff member if you've forgotten) - click on Britannica School, choose "Middle" and do a search for Ecology.
What about online dictionaries? The Collins Dictionary The Oxford Dictionary The Merriam-Webster Dictionary
And then there's Wolfram|Alpha....
So... was wiseGEEK right? Can we trust that source?
